Things I Use, Like, and would Recommend

To run a side business creating websites, there are certain things that need to be used. All of these things make creating websites and running a business exceptionally easy. So here’s a list of things that I use, like, and would definitely recommend to other web creators.

WPEngine

If you have a WordPress site and you’re not using [sf-aff uri=”wpengine” class=””] WPEngine [/sf-aff] (aff link), you need to change that right away. Main reason: Stress Free Hosting. Seriously, you put your site up and you’re done. It’s faster than most hosts out there, it’s secure, it’s backed up every day, and support is amazing!

Bonus: I can host and help migrate your website for you for $29/mo! Check out my hosting page: Hosting.

Easy Digital Downloads

I really think this is probably one of the best plugins ever made. If you need to sell digital products, use this. If you need a membership site, use this. If you want the selling process on your site to be easy to set up with tons of add ons to extend what you need. Use Easy Digital Downloads.

Sublime Text 2

I hope 3 comes out soon but Sublime Text 2 is definitely my Code Editor or choice. The multi select cursor and add-ons are my favorite features. It makes coding yours. That means whatever style you use to code, it’s like Sublime Text adapts to it, from hardcore programmers to front end developers. Even making WordPress themes is easier. It’s worth the price 1000x’s over. Definitely try it out when you get a chance if you’re not already using it.

CodeKit

Are you using SaSS, or Less? You should be, because it’s awesome! I’m all about saving time and CodeKit is a great preprocessor. As the author says: It’s like steroids for web developers. Totally worth it.

Genesis Framework

Duh! I probably should have put this first but, oh well. The[sf-aff uri=”genesis” class=””] Genesis Framework [/sf-aff] (aff link). I don’t even know what I can say that hasn’t been said already. You can make websites fast, the code is consistent so hopping on another site developed by someone else using the framework is easy to work with, it’s optimized for speeds, SEO, and security. The community is enormous! There’s really nothing you can’t do when you use the framework. Every site I do is on the framework and will most likely always be. It’s that good.

Types and Views

I don’t really care what anyone says, bottom line is, if you want to make a complicated website and don’t have the means to hire a programmer, then you need this plugin. [sf-aff uri=”wp-views” class=””] Types and Views [/sf-aff] may be a little bloated, but their working on fixing it, and my next plugin will eliminate bloat as well (that was my teaser). Easily create Custom Post Types, easily create views for single pages, archive pages, loops, etc. If you know a little bit of html and css, you’ll be unstoppable.

Gravity Forms

Not sure how much I have to say about this one. Build forms with ease, done.

Genesis Sandbox

What is the Genesis Sandbox? It’s the starter theme for your next build! Seriously. Font-awesome, Bootstrap, simple css structure, easily enqueue scripts, and the list goes on. If you’re a developer and you’re building sites with the Genesis Framework, then you should be using GenesisSandox. A version for non-coders will be releasing soon as well.

That’s my list for now =). If you have anything else that is vital to your development flow, I’d love to hear it in the comments!

Sandbox is the best thing that happened to Genesis since well, Genesis!

I’m seriously in love with Sandbox right now. I’ve built my last three websites with it and it has never been easier. You sir, simply rock for having contributed such an amazing tool to the community.

Keep up the great work and more video courses please!

You are too freakin’ kind!!!! Thank you so much! It really means a lot when I get a comment of someone who appreciates what I’ve been trying to do =). Next course early next year will be how to make a site responsive 😉

I am very curious about the non coder version! Mainly because I am a non coder. Do not get me wrong. I love code. I just cannot do code.

Not sure what you mean… non coder version of what?
