Woe is me! The agony and conflicting emotions one must experience from using the WP Editor. Such a cardinal sin to use something that’s been built in to WordPress for my own selfish needs. How dare I? ::end dramatic sarcasm:: Yes I use it, so what? I like it. It makes my life 1,000 times easier when all I have to do is click “editor” and make my changes.
I don’t see what the big deal is. I’ve heard every argument from you can break something to it’s just not right.
Well I refute those notions.
Here’s my comparison and time chart based on using the editor vs not using the editor.
Not using the editor workflow to make a simple css change.
- Open whatever FTP client you use.
- Pray you have the right FTP credentials.
- Download the file you need to edit.
- Open the file in whatever you use to edit files.
- Save and Upload.
Using the editor workflow to make a simple css change.
- Log into the site.
- Click Editor
- Make Change
Let me make this clear, there is nothing wrong with EITHER way. In my opinion, the editor just makes things much easier.
SUPER NOTE: ONLY USE IT IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING
Don’t think I can stress that enough. If you don’t know what your doing, the problem will be you break something, then you have to contact your developer to fix it, then you NEED the ftp info to get it working again.
In my case though, I like using the editor. I use it all the time. It’s fast and convenient and I really see nothing wrong with using it. If it’s saving time on the 100 other things I need to do, then believe that I will continue to use it, today and forever.
Using the editor doesn’t make you an amateur, in fact, if you can use it without breaking anything, your probably incredibly bad ass and know what your doing.
How do you feel about using the editor and why?
