10 wordpress plugins you can't live without

I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t have these necessary plugins for wordpress.  If you want your development life to be fast and easy then you need these.

1. WordPress SEO by Yoast

This is an amazing plugin for all your meta, title and SEO needs! It shows you exactly how your info will display in the search engines and give you total control of your meta info. Very easy to use and great options. Highly Recommended!

2. Styles With Shortcodes

I definitely cannot live without this plugin. It’s a premium plugin found at codecanyon.net by the folks at rightHere.com and is truly amazing! Comes pre-installed with tons of shortcodes that you can use throughout your wordpress site. They also make it incredibly easy to create new shortcodes. I really think that this can replace the custom fields on the post pages in wordpress. You need this plugin.

3. White Label Branding

The folks at RightHere do it again! Another premium plugin that just makes it so easy to white label wordpress. All the options are simple to use, very clean, and very useful. You can remove entire areas of wordpress with a simple check box. Don’t install wordpress without it.

4. Genesis Framework

Genesis Framework for WordPress
Okay, I know this isn’t really a plugin BUT it is definitely something that you need to use, or at least try out. You can click the “Why Genesis” link on the side bar to read many of the benifits that Genesis has to offer. It’s great for CSS Developers because everything is built on child themes. It just makes running wordpress incredibly easy. This blog was built on it using the Tapestry Theme (with some modifications of course). The Genesis Framework is truly amazing and I will continue to use it as long as I’m using wordpress.

5. Nextgen Gallery – Duh!

How can you have a top 10 list without mentioning the NextGen Gallery. If you’re not familiar with this yet, you need to be. It’s the easiest, most flexible gallery there is for wordpress with tons of options for customization.

6. Fancy Box or Pretty Photo

Use this in conjunction with the Nextgen gallery and you’ll have some amazing tools at your disposal. These plugins give you a simple light box effect with a little extra. You can have it automatically detect images on your site or manually set everything up. I like them both.

7. SEO Smart Links

Looking for some cross-linking? This is the plug that does it. You can pick specific words that you want to link throughout your website OR you can just let it do it’s cross-linking thing. This plugin will automatically find words that will link to other posts/pages on your blog… and it’s FREE! WOOOT!

  1. Have you tried to use #2 [Shortcodes with Styles] and #4 [Genesis Framework] together? Seems to break the widget on the side. Wonder if you’ve found a work around for this.
